The origins of the Islamic state: This classic historical work is an English translation of Kitāb Futūḥ al-Buldān by the ninth-century Muslim historian Aḥmad ibn Yaḥyá al-Balādhurī. It provides detailed accounts of the Arab-Muslim conquests and the development of the early Islamic state, covering regions including Arabia, Syria, Mesopotamia, Persia, Armenia, Egypt, North Africa, al-Andalus, and parts of Central and South Asia. The work records military campaigns, treaties, taxation, land administration, political arrangements, settlements, and relations between Muslim rulers and conquered peoples. Murgotten's translation, accompanied by geographical and historical annotations, makes the work an important source for understanding the expansion, administration, and political geography of the early Islamic world.
